The OJT Field Guide

A practical guide to building compliant OJT programs in regulated manufacturing.

This project began as a few LinkedIn posts and a personal effort to organize the fundamentals of training management into a set of notes for my own reference. Over time, those notes expanded with lessons learned, practical examples, and ideas gathered throughout my career.

Over more than sixteen years in manufacturing, I have worked in training management, operations, and quality systems across industries including medical devices, electronics, automotive, aviation, and aerospace. Throughout that experience, I have built training programs, supported production ramp-ups, prepared for audits, and worked closely with teams at every level of the organization. One lesson has remained constant: effective training is essential to operational success, yet it is often underestimated.

I have decided to publish this material as a practical mini-guide to training management in manufacturing. The concepts presented here come from real-world experience and are intended to provide useful ideas, proven practices, and practical guidance for those responsible for developing and managing training programs.

Whether you are building a training system from scratch or improving an existing one, I hope this guide helps you save time, solve problems, and approach challenges with greater confidence.
